Middletown Historical Society Lecture

Sunday, April 7, 2024 • 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Overview

Join us as we host the Middletown Historical Society for their History Talk on Newport Water Works.

The third and final lecture of the Middletown Historical Society’s 2024 Winter Lecture Series will be presented by Andy Leys (MA American History), a Middletown native who teaches history at Middletown High School. The focus of his presentation is on the Newport Water Works – the 19th Century company that established the network of ponds, pumps, and pipes that provides drinking water to Aquidneck Island today.  While researching his own family tree, Leys discovered that his grandfather played a role in the creation of the Newport Water Works, and his personal account provides insights into the valuable resource we access today with just a turn of the tap.

Free to attend! No RSVP required.

Event will be held upstairs in our Overlook space (former Brix Restaturant). Please note: To avoid the stairs, limited parking is available in the upper parking lot closest to East Main Road. Our marketplace, bar, and restaurant will be open, so feel free to grab a drink before the talk or stay for a meal afterwards! Dining reservations optional.
