Get ready to raise your glass! Newport Vineyards Dry Ro wins Best in Show at the 2021 Ro Competition held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on June 19th. Lead by the American Fine Wine Competition, The Ro Competition received over 160 entries and the sixteen esteemed wine judges awarded 24 Double Gold Medals, 34 Gold Medals, and 75 Silver Medals. Newport Vineyards broke the mold as top winner from an unexpected Rhode Island winery.

Winemaker George Chelf, along with owners John and Paul Nunes have been perfecting their ro portfolio for decades. The wine is comprised of cabernet franc, and has notes of red fruit, citrus, melon and rose petal. “Our microclimate just north of Newport is ideal for growing cool climate rosés. We’re excited to bring this recognition to the Rhode Island winery region,” said Winemaker George Chelf. Their Dry Ro gained popularity over the ‘ro boom’ during the last several years. Newport Vineyards also features a Pinot Noir Ro and newly released Great White Ro, in their portfolio.

About The American Fine Wine Competition & The Ro Competition
Expertly run by Shari Gherman, President, the American Fine Wine Competition has been bringing recognition to the best wines produced in America for the past fourteen years. This year, “Fifty Shades of Pink” followed THE Rosé Competition 2021. The event was held – indoors and out on June 19th at the historic Ft. Lauderdale Woman’s Club. The event featured hundreds of magnificent award-winning Rosé wines from around the country plus fine red and white wines from the AFWC. Since its inception, AFWC has raised more than $1,500,000 for charity.
